The World's Best 50 Restaurants 2009

South African restaurants featured prominently in the world's top-100 best restaurants list, announced during the recent S.Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2009 Awards ceremony in London.

Among them was the Rust en Vrede restaurant, located in the original barrel fermentation cellar on the Rust en Vrede Estate in Stellenbosch which is owned by the Proprietor of Ernie Els Wines, Jean Engelbrecht. It was placed 98th on the world list and sixth in South Africa. The restaurant was opened in November 2007. David Higgs is the restaurant’s Executive Head Chef.
