Oosthuizen’s visit inspires EEFF class of 2011

Former member of the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation (EEFF) Louis Oosthuizen dropped in to support the current crop of members on a recent visit to South Africa. The reigning Open Champion displayed some of the skills that brought him golf's greatest prize at St Andrews last summer and his conversations with the EEFF members - currently 25 boys and eight girls - was clearly inspiring.

Hannes van Niekerk, CEO of the EEFF, recalls how Louis shone during his time there. "You could tell he was special," says Hannes. "He was Captain of the team and he had fantastic qualities. He was always a bit above the rest, so I'm not surprised he's doing so well. He's a wonderful kid and a great role model for our members."

Nor is Ernie surprised by Oosthuizen's blossoming career. "He's got a great talent," says Ernie. "I remember when he turned professional in 2003 his handicap was plus-6! I'm so proud of the way he has made the most of his opportunities. It goes to show that anything is possible when you give kids some help and a decent start in life."
