Anahita wins top international award

The Ernie Els designed golf course at Anahita on the island of Mauritius has been voted Best Golf Development for Europe & Africa at the recent CNBC International Property Awards. It is a prestigious international honour and is indicative of the widespread positive reaction to this spectacular golf course.

Often the most challenging sites lead to the most spectacular golf courses and this is certainly evident at Anahita. Construction was a significant challenge, due to the nature of the landscape. The natural rock on the island is so hard that the course was routed largely through the existing topography to avoid unnecessary heavy construction work. The rock was then blasted away to create downward changes in elevation and, for instance, the footprints for the bunkers.

“It was important to get the positioning right first time,” explained Senior Design Associate Greg Letsche. “Trust me, you really don’t want to be doing that kind of work twice!”
